Herbs in Tincture Form

A tincture is an extraction of the medicinal properties of an herb, using alcohol and water. We use certified organic alcohol made from certified organic corn and distilled water. Tinctures are an effective and convenient way to take herbs medicinally; the herb properties are "pre-digested" and absorbed directly into the bloodstream. You will get the full medicinal compliment from this liquid form of herb. In contrast, herb capsules have to go through your entire digestive process. Capsules are more appropriate for younger individuals or those with no digestive problems.

Notes on Tincture Use

When trying a new herb tincture, begin with a small amount, about 1/2 of the recommended dosage. See how well you tolerate this herb. If okay, next time take the full amount. Many herbs are most effective when taken regularly over an extended period of time at the recommended dose. An average dose for adults weighing 130-150 lbs may be 30-60 drops, or 1-2 droppers full. Increase or decrease according to stage and severity of ailment as well as weight and individual sensitivities. For best results, place your tincture dose in a small amount of Luke-warm water and drink before or between meals. A child's dose is computed by dividing the child's weight by 150, which gives the fraction of the adult dose. Most of the alcohol can be removed from the tincture by putting the dose in a small amount of boiling water and letting it sit uncovered until cool. Read and follow the recommended dosage suggestions.
